Building on our year-on-year success, 2019 saw solid business growth for UK Connect – from gaining many new clients, such as Crest Nicholson, MacTaggart & Michel and Orbit Homes to continuing to improve customer experience and creating a whole new brand identity. We look at some of our highlights and exciting upcoming projects.
We kicked off the year by winning the ‘Business of the year’ at the Soldiering On Awards and being accepted onto the London Stock Exchange Elite programme to support our growth and engage with a community of global business experts – demonstrating just how far we have come as the UK’s leading provider of communication solutions to the construction industry.
As our sales continued to grow, and in order to meet the growing demands of the business, a number of new employees were hired including account managers, a service desk team leader, a completely new marketing team, technical consultants, business administrators and more – all of which came with a wealth of experience from relevant backgrounds, such as Kier Group, Cisco, Morgan Sindall and ex-forces. And, as we continue to grow into 2020, we still need more people to join our exciting team and have a number of vacancies available.
We pride ourselves on excellent customer service and expertise and our Technical team acquired further professional network certifications, such as Cisco Certified Network Professional, Cradlepoint Certified Network Professional as well as associate level qualifications ; implemented a customer support system to ensure we resolve issues as quickly as possible and reduced engineer callouts by deploying a new remote management system, allowing a more rapid response, faster resolution rate and an overall greater customer experience.
As the construction industry continues to invest more into digital technology, we continue to provide cutting edge solutions and have partnered with the country’s largest 5G innovation centre. With the rollout of 5G in the UK underway, we provide 5G-ready solutions giving our customers immediate access to the future of connectivity.
In October 2019, we also launched our ‘Unlimited Data’ proposition, enabling our customers to work more freely and stream or access rich content without the worry of hitting their data caps. Get in touch to learn more about our unlimited offering.
To further support the business and communicate UK Connect’s vision and goals, we refreshed our brand identity and re-launched our slick new website in November. Meaning the construction industry can find rapid connectivity solutions in just a couple of clicks (and have it installed within just 10 days).
We expanded our marketing – as seen in Housebuilder and Showhouse throughout the year, including a 15-page broadband supplement. And we also attended a number of industry events, providing the Wi-Fi for the COINS annual conference, exhibiting at ConTech and Gold Sponsorship for one of the biggest industry events – The Whathouse? Awards.
At UK Connect we are dedicated to providing connectivity with a world-class customer experience – all our clients have dedicated account managers whom, in 2019, travelled far and wide to capture their customers’ feedback and requirements and solve any challenges they might have faced. We now have key insight-driven developments for the business because of it.
In December we hosted a customer ‘Track day’ at Mercedes-Benz world to celebrate the success we’ve had; fantastic fun and some great new ideas generated – we look forward to hosting more customer events in 2020.
UK Connect continued to support X-Forces organisations to encourage ex-military personnel into new careers and young entrepreneurs to follow their ideas – a subject close to the heart of our Managing Director, PJ Farr, of which he continues to promote and raise awareness for. In 2019, PJ featured in the BBC’s CEO Secrets, the X-Forces podcast and was also selected as an ambassador for Start Up Loans. PJ also continues to attend regular meetings with various MPs, including attendance at the Houses of Parliament to discuss opportunities for ex-forces and supporting this cause.
We are also passionate about giving back to the community and helping organisations who support the less fortunate – so we gave 10% of our annual profits to charity and our team got 5 days out of the office to use for the charity of their choice (something we do every year). Some of the team attended TeenTech to educate and inspire the younger generation into STEM subjects and spent the day serving Christmas dinner to the homeless. We also provided a donation to Footsteps charity for a second year in a row and hosted a ‘Xmas jumper day’ in order to raise money for Save the Children UK.
2019 was a very busy year for UK Connect, but one that has seen consistent growth and laid strong foundations for years to come.
The team have worked hard to listen to customers challenges and strive for a seamless experience and unrivalled connectivity solutions. As we continue to partner and work with industry leaders such as tech giants Cisco Systems, expect to see some new, exciting construction-specific technology solutions in 2020.
Lastly, we also have an exciting new sister company called ‘OneSite’ due to launch later this year – offering a digital site management platform specifically for construction sites, allowing our customers to manage people coming and going on the site – improving efficiency, ensure compliance and keep sites safe & secure.
With the growth of the team, expansion of our client base and evolving technologies we look forward to providing even greater communication solutions for the construction industry.
