Our “Survival Kits” were hugely appreciated during the hazy Saturday morning following this year’s WhatHouse? Awards. After a spritz of rejuvenating face spray, peeling off the cooling eye mask and popping a mint, we were ready to look back on a great day. And a great day it was (and night for some enthusiastic revellers). The theme was ‘space’ and it was nice for all to escape reality for a short while and look back, from a distance, at the huge industry-wide accomplishments made over the past year.
The overall winner of the evening was Barratt Developments PLC who took away the Housebuilder of the Year Award, deservedly so. We were very honoured to have the shared privilege of awarding this prize as we count Barratt amongst our growing list of clients who we’ve helped out of a tricky situation. We were able to install fibre-speed broadband to enable their new voice-over IP solution within 48 hours after other providers were quoting three-month delays. Our lightning-fast response allowed Barratt’s planned sales launch to continue as scheduled, a resounding success. We must also give a special mention to Regal London, The Berkeley Group and HGG London to whom we awarded the prizes for Best Exterior Design.
Other than a fascinating talk by astronaut Major Tim Peake (who told us that the last detached house he lived in was the International Space Station), guests were also entertained by comedian Dara Ó Briain and the editorial director of Show House and What House Digital, Rupert Bates. Bates gave an inspiring call to action over the growing issue of homelessness in the UK. At UK Connect, we hold this cause close to our hearts. We believe that the housebuilding industry should wholeheartedly commit to putting an end to homelessness. This year, UK Connect will be donating to Footsteps, a local charity set-up to help homeless people in and around our base of Guildford. Our donation will go towards providing Christmas dinners to those in need (with all the trimmings of course) because this is the time of year when nobody should feel alone or forgotten.
After such an inspiring award show, we look forward to seeing what the industry accomplishes in the year 2020; we know that we have some exciting things planned and can’t wait to share with you news of the direction we will be leading the comms sector.

“Working with UK Connect has been a smooth and easy process. The team has been fantastic by going above and beyond, getting our broadband installed for us within extremely tight deadlines and ensuring the client relationship is done in an efficient manner. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the UK Connect team, as I find they are highly reliable and have good attention to detail and carry out the job to an exceptional standard.
