The theme of the webinar

Chris took part in BrightTALK’s three-day Webinar series: “Data Center trends for 2021”. The series consisted of free thought leadership from the world’s top speakers, vendors and evangelists in the form of live webinars, panel discussions, keynote presentations and webcam videos. From Architects to CIOs, professionals from a diverse range of technical backgrounds attended.

Chris hosted his section of this webinar at 1pm on the 21st of October 2020, with theme being “Constructing Holistic Networks 4G, 5G and IoT”, where he shared his thoughts on the impact of these key technologies and networks whilst also sharing his knowledge on how the Construction Industry itself has utilised this mobile broadband infrastructure.

Key facts

Throughout the webinar Chris shared with his audience a variety of key facts based solely on the 4G, 5G and IoT theme. Here are just a few of the facts he shared:

  • At this current time we have surpassed 4G speeds in some areas of the world courtesy of LTE-Advanced Pro with speeds of around 120Mbps on certain routers utilising Gigabit Class LTE
  • Sub-6Ghz 5G cannot transmit as far as 4G/LTE (.8Ghz to 3.6Ghz) connections so you need to be pretty close to a 5G cell tower
  • As of 2020, a total of 50 billion devices are expected to be connected to the Internet. That is the same number of chickens the entire worldwide population eat in one year!
  • Thanks to new wireless technologies and other IoT-related advancements the number of devices will balloon to 500 billion devices by 2030, that represents a 900% increase in just 10 years
