It’s been nine years since UK Connect was founded by Managing Director PJ Farr and we are proud to now be partners with many of the construction industry’s biggest housebuilders. We are experts in our field and believe the full potential of construction depends on faster, more reliable connectivity. After witnessing the growth of IoT marketing increase at a staggering rate, we know that embracing digital progress within your business is the key to racing ahead of competitors.
It’s our mission to spread word of the digital revolution and to share the latest technology that’s taking the sector by storm. We decided to plan an event that would encompass both these factors and provide guests with an opportunity to network: ‘Driving Digital Progress.’
The event had an impressive turnout as many industry leaders attended including Crest Nicholson, Bewley Homes and Thameswey Developments. It was amazing to see so many of the UK’s top housebuilders under the same roof.
To reflect the rapid acceleration of our business and our award-winning mentality, we thought it only right that we host the event at a venue that evoked these sentiments: The Red Bull Racing Factory. Our expert guests were surrounded by championship-wining race cars and iconic pieces of Red Bull Racings heritage, making it a truly inspiring and memorable setting for the day.
To kick start the event, we invited our partner Jurriaan Kamer, Organisation and Transformation Coach from The Ready with his presentation aptly named ‘How to run your business like a Formula One Team.’ Formula One Teams are renowned for their seamless and collaborative ways of working. Jurriaan unveiled how their organisational charts have evolved and transformed over the past century. He taught our guests how they can take inspiration from these charts and how to make small changes within their organisations that will result in huge impacts.
Next, Nelia Booden, a Change Agent from The Ready, offered her expertise on how our guests could combat common workplace tensions they face within both their day-to-day roles and within their wider businesses. Nelia worked with our attendees individually to help them plan to overcome the pain points they raised during her presentation.
The morning’s session was all about helping guests overcome common tensions and to become more efficient organisations. We believe adopting these methodologies will help the construction industry rise to the challenge of embracing the digital revolution and unlock new opportunities.
Our Founder and Managing Director PJ Farr took to the stage to reveal how the future of construction is being transformed by technology. PJ started by explaining that there are an alarming 61,000 non-fatal injuries that happen on construction sites each year and highlighted the lifesaving and accessible tech available that improves site safety. He walked guests through what a connected construction site looks like and disclosed how sites utilising AI and IoT will help their businesses build faster and smarter.
Throughout the day, our guests explored our interactive ‘Tech Playground.’ Manned by our expert team, the playground showcased ground-breaking technology that is already available to the construction industry. Automatic sensors that alert management when employees fail to wear appropriate safety gear such as hard hats and high-vis and industry-leading 5G wireless routers are two examples of the multitude of tech that was on display. The playground even had a giant construction themed Scalextric with a competition running to determine who was the fastest racer.
After a busy day packed full with learning, we brought the experts together for a panel discussion, featuring Dean Cooke, Group IT Director at Crest Nicholson, Andy Sawyer, EMEA Partner Associate at Cradlepoint as well as UK Connect’s own Joe Budnar-Hunt, our Network Solutions Engineer and our Managing Director, PJ Farr. Panellists reflected on the day’s ideologies and sparked a debate about the world of construction technology. They took questions from the audience and helped them to combat the biggest technical challenges they face in their everyday roles. Dean Cooke even revealed how Crest Nicholson had welcomed digital adoption into their organisation and encouraged our guests to work towards a technological future.
Rounding off a memorable day, all guests were treated to a tour of the world-renowned Red Bull Racing factory. They got the chance to peek behind the curtain into the top-secret world that powers the Red Bull Formula One team and were on the hunt to spot Max Verstappen who happened to be in the factory that day. Our guests were even fortunate enough to witness new car parts being handcrafted by the Red Bull team for the Red Bull Racing RB16 car ahead of the upcoming Formula One season.
We hope that our guests enjoyed the event as much as we did and that they gained valuable insight into the technology transformation that’s taking over the sector. We are truly passionate about I.T. and we’re looking forward to hosting our next customer event, continuing our mission of raising awareness about the benefits of embracing technology in the construction industry.
