Connecting at Christmas: UK Connect brings the turkey to support Guildford homeless charity

UK Connect are helping to bring Christmas cheer to a Guildford-homeless charity this year by providing funding for Boxing Day lunches.

Following the success of 2019s festive dinner preparations with Footsteps, an organisation which provides relief and support to disadvantaged people in Guildford, UK Connect have been keen to offer further support in 2021.

The idea for the donation came about following discussions with UK Connect’s partnering housing developers, who all agreed that supporting a homeless charity would be a more meaningful, relevant and impactful gesture than receiving an annual client thank you gift.

We’re thrilled to be supporting Footsteps once again, helping to deliver its annual Boxing Day lunches to the most vulnerable and in need. It’s really important to us as a business to support causes in the local community and we know the volunteers at Footsteps always go above and beyond the call of duty. For UK Connect, it’s gestures like this that make Christmas a special time. We received lots of great feedback from the Boxing Day lunches the year before last and we’re sure 2021’s celebration will also be a rousing success.

Helping the Homeless every step of the way

Recent figures have shown that at least 688 homeless people died in England and Wales in 2020, 42% higher than when records began in 2013. It’s thanks to charities such as Footsteps that people are receiving the support they need to get back to their feet.

Incredibly, the charity has been serving guests for the last 30 years, and is ran entirely by volunteers. Gifts and food are a crucial part of the charities funding, helping the Footsteps team serve up to 40 men and women each week.

Farr added: “It’s saddening to hear that around 4,500 people across Surrey and Hampshire are currently homeless1. However, if we all do our bit, we can help give people the support they need to thrive.

“The work carried out at Footsteps is the true meaning of Christmas and we’d like to thank them for all they do to help the local Guildford community.”
