Learning at Work Week is an annual event held each year to build and improve educational cultures at work. It aims to highlight the benefits and importance of continual development.
The theme this year is ‘Made for Learning’, focusing on our amazing human capacity to keep learning and how we can be great lifelong learners. We spoke to Kate Hurst, Culture Manager at UK Connect and she shares the importance of UK Connect’s continuous efforts towards learning on the job.
Ensuring there is continuous learning and offering consistent support to up-skill the whole team is something that UK Connect does very well. Being a fast–growing, quick–changing business it is important for the team to support one another and have an excellent understanding of what each department is working on.
One way we encourage transparency across the business is by enrolling every new starter on our Onboarding Academy. This helps the team hit the ground running and develop a deeper understanding of every aspect of the business from the core and throughout. New team members are grouped together to start on the same day and learn all there is to know about UK Connect together, from Managing Directors PJ Farr’s inspiring startup story to the ins and outs of every department.

To encourage growth within our team we establish personal development plans with employees intending to optimize their existing skills and advance their careers. As the business has developed and grown it’s been great to see many of our team members progress in tandem with UK Connect. A great example of someone who has flourished since first joining the team is Jo Cooper, who has recently been promoted from Project Coordinator to Project Manager as a result of passing her Prince2 Foundation Course.
“UK Connect have been a great support when I expressed my desire to become a Project Manager, they supported me financially to complete my Prince2 Foundation Course and my manager motivated me throughout my study.” Joanna Cooper – Project Manager at UK Connect
We recently partnered with ITP Apprenticeships and rolled out a brand-new apprenticeship scheme to support those keen to kick start a career, whilst gaining new skills and studying towards recognised qualifications.
Off the back of this, we have recruited our first apprentice – Rajan Kang, our new 1st Line Support Apprentice who is about to join our Service Desk Team. He is working alongside and learning from our team of IT specialists who are the best of the best. Continuous tuition will play a huge part in Rajan’s journey with UK Connect as he will be gaining hands-on experience throughout, helping him find his strengths and developing them further.
“The whole recruitment process at UK Connect from the assessment day to the interview was interesting and informative. The UK Connect staff are friendly, helpful and always answer any questions I have.” Rajan Kang, 1st Line Support Apprentice at UK Connect.

“Working with UK Connect has been a smooth and easy process. The team has been fantastic by going above and beyond, getting our broadband installed for us within extremely tight deadlines and ensuring the client relationship is done in an efficient manner. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the UK Connect team, as I find they are highly reliable and have good attention to detail and carry out the job to an exceptional standard.
