A UK Connect tribute to Armistice Day

On the 11th hour of the 11th minute of the 11th day, we would like to come together and share our respects to those who have fallen, for those we shall always remember. For this year we celebrate the 102nd anniversary of the First World War armistice.

Close to our hearts

In fact, the army is something that comes very close to our hearts here at UK Connect and is what solely started our journey as a company. We would like to share our story as a way of paying respects to all those past and present.

PJ’s Story

In 2008, PJ Farr joined the British Army. As an inquisitive soldier, PJ was fascinated by how the army could maintain reliable connectivity in such isolated locations.

It all started when PJ took a selfie with some penguins in the Falkland Islands, he could take a photo and send it back to the UK, instantly. His father-in-law, however, couldn’t even get a good connection on his UK construction site, a problem that sparked PJ’s curiosity. If live sites could use technology to improve connectivity, it would bring huge gains. This was the start of ‘Countrywide Telecoms’, now known as UK Connect – the UK’s leading communications provider to the construction industry, looking after the UK’s most prestigious housebuilders and contractors.

PJ’s roots continue to be a huge part of the company culture and we’re passionate about supporting ex-veterans. And X-forces has helped shape PJ’s transferable skillset and business maturity. Since 2016, we have expanded our knowledge and expertise, helping deliver robust and reliable products to the biggest of companies within the sector, whilst also winning projects with the MOD, enabling us to help troops across the UK stay connected in these uncertain times.

Pay your respects

If you would like to share your respects during these uncertain times, due to cancellations of wider events. Here are just a few ways you can do so:

  1. Wear a poppy
  2. Participate in the Nationwide two-minute silence
  3. Attend an online event: 1. Visit the British Legion website for more information. 2. Or take part in the Historic Dockyard Event.
  4. Look to the stars in remembrance on locked-down Armistice Day: The Commonwealth War Graves Commission plans to beam searchlights into the night sky from cemeteries and memorials it cares for across the country. People are being encouraged to look to the night sky from their doorsteps on this year’s Armistice Day, in a collective moment of remembrance for the war dead.
  5. Cite the poem “The Ode of Remembrance”The Ode of Remembrance is taken from Laurence Binyon’s poem, For the Fallen.
  6. Display a poppy in your home/ front window
  7. Pay tribute in the Virtual Fields of Remembrance

They sacrificed their lives, for the freedom we know today.

UK Connect would like to thank all of our brave servicemen and women, past and present.

Lest we Forget, for we will remember!
