The UK Connect 10th Anniversary Celebration

PJ Farr, our CEO & Founder, established the company in 2013 after serving in the British Army and being inspired by how the Forces could maintain reliable connectivity in even the most isolated of destinations. If you could get a strong enough connection to send photos of wildlife from far-flung destinations around the world, surely you could connect a UK building site and improve communication both across departments and with customers… 

A decade later and UK Connect has gone from strength to strength, working with the UK’s leading housebuilders to get them connected and other industries including the Armed Forces, Hospitality, Enterprise and Multiple Dwelling Units. The company has also received many awards and regularly been voted A Great Place to Work®. 

Our event started with a presentation on the past year at UK Connect, complete with insights and overviews from various departments along with a look back over the past 10 years. Following these, Kate Hurst, our Head of Internal Operations, talked through the company’s focus on culture – celebrating how we have once again been voted A Great Place to Work® for Wellbeing. After this news, it was time to give out some awards to some of our dedicated team: 

• Ray of Sunshine – Jeanette Ward, HR Manager 
• Good Egg – Caroline Edwards, Team Administrator 
• Beyond the Call of Duty – Cory Sheldon and Kate Hurst 
• Crunchie Award* – Mike Lavender 
• Customer Feedback – Nicole Curran 

*The Crunchie Award went to the team member who was nominated the most times by colleagues for our monthly Crunchie Award 

After the excitement of the awards, it was time to surprise PJ with a video montage of team members explaining what they love most about working for UK Connect and thanking them for all the opportunities the company has helped bring about – both professionally and personally. 

After lunch and a few drinks, team building activities included an Escape Room-style quiz which required everyone to work together to uncover the clues and an art class where UKC team members had the chance to show off their creative skills by painting their very own penguins. Why penguins? Because that was the wildlife PJ would take photos of and send to family during his time serving in the Armed Forces… The finished masterpieces further proved that the UK Connect team is a talented and creative bunch. 

We then had a break to all get ready for the evening entertainment including a three-course dinner, casino, karaoke, more drinks and the chance to dance the night away. There was even a Crystal Maze-style wind machine with the opportunity to win prizes including a day off for your birthday. It was such a celebratory occasion, and we can’t wait for what the next 10 years brings.
