UK Connect Keynote Event 2023: Connecting the Disconnected at the Red Bull Racing Factory

Following 2022’s ‘Driving Digital Progress’ event, UK Connect was delighted to bring together the nation’s leading housebuilders and I.T. professionals for our latest annual keynote event – where we were able to show how we pride ourselves on ‘Connecting the Disconnected’.

UK Connect Tech Trail 2023

Once again taking place at the Red Bull Racing Factory in Milton Keynes, our guests were welcomed into the venue with a sentiment detection machine. This intelligent piece of tech can decipher how old someone is and how they are feeling (so many were happy when they saw the incredible display of Red Bull racecars in the main auditorium!) and would be a powerful tool for any Sales and Marketing Suite to gauge the feelings of any potential buyers. After a tea, coffee or juice and a few quick catch-ups, we raced ahead with the day.

First up was a speech from Hannah Cartwright, our Account Director. Hannah talked about the importance of connectivity, just how many devices are connected to the network globally and how the construction industry can learn from Formula 1’s use of data and technology to improve the way it works – explaining how later on in the day our customers would be able to see working examples of the tech that is available today that can enhance their ways of working. Hannah handed over to PJ Farr, our Founder and CEO, who revealed that the day was UK Connect’s 10th birthday, thanking everyone for their continued support, explaining more about our key values – Collective Expertise, Get I.T. Done, Think Differently – and revealing how we are using learnings from our work in other sectors (e.g. the Shangri-La Group at the Shard and the Met Office) to enhance the work carried out on construction sites.

PJ introduced the first of our guest speakers, Matt Hughes, Operations Director at Landmarc, to discuss how UK Connect’s solutions have helped the Armed Forces – often based on remote sites with little to no signal – keep in contact with each other and loved ones while also helping them deliver mission-critical operations. Joe Budnar-Hunt, UK Connect’s Head of Solutions, followed up Matt’s talk with an overview of the tech stack deployed to assist in this area. After this, we were delighted to welcome Mark Wiltshire, I.T. Director at Kier Group, to discuss their new and exclusive partnership with UK Connect and the reasons why they have chosen us for their connectivity and I.T. support.

As it was a special day, we decided to make this year’s event bigger and better than ever before. A great example of this was our recreation of a construction site at the back of the room that certainly got people talking as soon as they walked in. On this immersive Tech Trail, our guests could see some of the tech they could utilise on their sites – from Cellular Broadband and In-Building Mobile Coverage to Wi-Fi (that does not drop out) and incredible Sensors that can detect falls, PPE and even human sentiment – in action. The latest in Network Security, AR (Augmented Reality) Smart Glasses and the workforce management toolbox were also all on display as we highlighted the possibilities of a completely connected site.

We split the crowd into three to enable everyone to enjoy this Tech Trail, a workshop hosted by Andy Sawyer of Cradlepoint on the benefits – and opportunities – of IoT (Internet of Things), and, of course, a tour around the Red Bull Racing Factory for a glimpse behind the scenes of what it takes to build a Formula 1-winning racecar.

After the tours and workshop had concluded, we reconvened for a Partner Panel hosted by our new Head of Sales, Paul Gibbs, and a few closing words from PJ. It was an incredibly busy day and as we said our goodbyes, we were excited to see how our happy customers will utilise the opportunities of cutting-edge tech in the very near future.

What a great way to celebrate our 10th birthday. We’d like to thank our partners, customers and Red Bull for all their support and hope they enjoyed the day as much as all of us at UK Connect. This was just the first of many events that will grow over the coming years as we search out the latest technologies that our customers can overlay on our network to enhance their business performance
